It’s been nine months since Drake dropped Certified Lover Boy but the 35 year old rapper is already gearing up to release a surprise project this summer according to an anonymous source that chose to be unidentified. The secret project has yet to be titled, but it’s rumoured to be an album that’s focused on only delivering “hits that can be played to dominate the summer.”
Drake’s plan is to get this album out before the fourth of July in anticipation for the United State’s biggest day of celebration in a year where restrictions have been removed across most states and countries. In addition to the project, there will be an accompanying tour that will expand his annual Toronto OVO Fest across North America in August after a two year hiatus.
The self-proclaimed “6 god” has always been calculated in his approach to marketing such as choosing to rock a heart shaped part on his hairline in anticipation for CLB. Recently Drake began to make headlines once again, well past the release of his last album, with his change to cornrows (fake?) and his new affiliation with online gambling casino Stake.
Given the lackluster fan reception of CLB, despite huge sales, it should come as no surprise that Drake is gearing up to release again. Many felt that the project he delivered wasn’t the one he wanted to given his broken leg and writer’s block that plagued the creation of the album and led to a long delay.
The length of this project is still unknown, so fans could get anything from an EP to an entire mixtape/album. But here’s hoping that this surprise drop is in the same vein as If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
