Brought the funk back this week by special request. This week’s list is a curated from songs I’ve been listening to, along with some new releases.
Emotional Oranges – Personal
My number one song from 2018 tops this week’s list. That lounge feel mixed with a dope guitar riff is a whole ass vibe. The video’s a bit odd though.
The Weeknd – Lost In The Fire
With his album coming sometime this year, the Weeknd teams up with DJ Gesaffelstein once again and drops what appears to be the first single off his next chapter; and it’s all about the love of his life Bella Hadid. Some have also speculated there are shots sent towards another well known artist from Toronto: Drake.
YoungBoy NBA – Kick Yo Door
Mr. “I’m messing with your favourite athlete’s daughter” comes through with the smoke on this one. YoungBoy NBA has been in rotation for three days straight since this dropped. That’s Floyd Mayweather’s daughter in the video by the way…
Ruthven – Hypothalamus
Got put on to this song recently and I’ve been vibing with it since. It’s very reminiscent of the artist Jai Paul and that resemblance has led some to believe Jai Paul has been putting out music under this new moniker Ruthven.
KIANA – ALONE (prod. Arham & YNL)
Toronto’s own KIANA comes through with another hit to start 2019 off right. ALONE strikes the soul with wavy tones backed by superb production. Here’s hoping her full project comes out this year.
Future – Jumpin On A Jet
With only seven days remaining until the release of his 7th studio album The WIZRD, Future has been grinding by dropping extravagant videos to promote the release. It’s his last album before starting a new $50 million dollar deal and while I haven’t been impressed with the two music releases so far, hopefully the rest of the album will shine like these videos have.
Phony PPL – mo’za-ik. [Album]
The opening act of Pusha T’s DAYTONA tour, five gentleman from Brooklyn formed a band to make this majestic album.
Gunna – Don’t Give Up
Off his 2017 Drip or Drown EP, co-rookie of the year Gunna comes through with a trap soul ballad that will have you reminiscing on everything you’ve ever felt.
Lil Duval – Pull Up (Feat. Ty Dolla $ign)
Fresh from his 2018 smash Smile Bitch (Feat. Snoop Dogg), comedian Lil Duval hits us with the 90’s vibes on his latest song Pull Up.
