The music industry of today is in a state of flux. While 2024 and 2025 has seen artists drop some of their best projects, there’s still a greater number of unlistenable music that floods the internet daily.

That’s why I’m here to deliver five great songs you’ve most likely been sleeping on and this first one is an absolute banger:

5. ten – Fred Again

For the longest time I thought I hated EDM music and that anything electronic was a song with only beats. It turns out that EDM has countless sub-genres that distinguish the various forms of electronic music and all this time I’ve been a fan of house music.

I need vocals in my music, so house music is officially one of my favourite genres. Fred Again’s latest album Ten Days, solidified that love with a concise album of varying songs.

But if there’s one song that emerged as a hit from the pack it’s ten. There’s a vibrant upbeat thump that makes you feel like you’re cruising the streets to a backdrop of a sparkling sunset, in a drop top convertible, without a single care in the world.

It’s absolutely mesmerizing. Lyrically, ten is very sticky with its repeating tune and if for any reason you aren’t compelled to like this song, please seek mental help:

4. dodger blue – Kendrick Lamar

Rap beef aside, GNX has been one of, if not, Kendrick’s most fun album to listen to. Some could argue DAMN was fairly mainstream as well, but all of his projects prior to GNX have been high level concepts with the intention of crafted perfection.

GNX sees Lamar letting loose and putting on for the city of LA. Dodger blue is the epitome of Cali culture and had this project dropped when most of the northern hemisphere had warm weather, dodger blue would have been appreciated for the gem that it is.

What stands out the most is how slick Lamar raps over such a chill beat. The juxtaposition is immaculate.

3. Drive – SZA

Just when I think I’ve seen it all, the internet goes, “Here’s a fever dream you’ve never seen before.” Someone needs to explain why Ben Stiller is singing every lyric to this song while driving in the music video…

Either way, Drive‘s vibes are flawless on SZA’s LANA: Deluxe album. Just let the song whimsically whisk you away…

2. OMW – PARTYNEXTDOOR & Drake

This is without a doubt the most slept on song from $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Drake both deliver on this track, but it’s Drake’s verse that lyrically shines through.

The imagery of the night he’s spending with an unknown woman is so detailed. It’s packed with emotions that range from joy & pleasure to jealousy & anger that listeners can envision the moment playing out.

On top of that, his vocal performance’s inflections adds another layer of emotional depth to his verse. All of this plays out over a hypnotically ethereal beat that keeps listeners in a trance.

What truly gets me is that this man told a girl to come roll with the “owl” 😭.

1. Take Me Back To LA – The Weeknd

It’s a shame Abel is choosing to lay The Weeknd to rest because we’re not ready to say goodbye, but thankfully Hurry Up Tomorrow is an absolute masterpiece to conclude his journey with. Dropping the album of the year in January is a historical testament to his talent.

There’s a gang of songs on this project that have been slept on, so it was difficult to settle on just one. However, the vocal performance, lyrical content, and faultless beat on display here; all culminate into the perfect song that is Take Me Back To LA.

Take a bow Weeknd, you deserve it.
